MLB strikeout props for Thu. 5/16: We like Tyler Glasnow's Over

Woof. That's an 0-3 day in strikeout props to drop our record to 3-5 on the week. We still have two days left to scratch out a profit this week, so let's start with three K props for Thursday's MLB slate. 

Joe Ryan under 5.5 Ks (+126 FanDuel)

Yankees at Twins, 1:10 p.m. ET

Joe Ryan is a strikeout machine, but this is a brutal matchup for the Minnesota Twins starter. The New York Yankees have the third-lowest strikeout rate (19.7 percent) and the second-lowest chase rate (24.8 percent) in MLB this year. New York has been on fire lately with a .797 OPS over the last week, and it has an 11.3 percent K rate over its last three games. This lineup is seeing the ball well from top to bottom, so we like this under at plus money. 

Jared Jones over 6.5 Ks (+116 FD)

Pirates at Cubs, 7:10 p.m. ET

Jared Jones is making his second straight start against the Chicago Cubs on Thursday. The rookie phenom managed only four strikeouts against this lineup a week ago, and we're getting a discount on his prop because of that performance. Jones still ranks first in MLB among qualified pitchers in whiff rate (36.5 percent) and ninth in strikeout rate (30.9 percent), and the Cubs have the sixth-most strikeouts against right-handed pitching this year. This is a great bounce-back spot for one of the best swing-and-miss pitchers in baseball. 

Tyler Glasnow over 8.5 Ks (+100 FD)

Reds at Dodgers, 10:10 p.m. ET

We don't normally target overs on props lined this high, but we'll make an exception for Tyler Glasnow. The Los Angeles Dodgers ace has the second-highest strikeout rate (33.6 percent) in the league among qualified pitchers, and he's gone over 8.5 Ks in four straight starts. This is a friendly matchup against the Cincinnati Reds, too, as they have a 29.8 percent K rate against right-handed pitching. Glasnow has a 36.4 percent strikeout rate in his career against current Reds hitters, so this is a good spot for another solid performance.
